Everyone’s favorite ultra-talented, highly ineffective lefty chucker is back where he belongs. Following his somewhat successful stint in the Chinese Basketball Association, Michael Beasley has signed a 10-day contract with the Miami Heat.

The 26 year-old was originally selected by the Heat with the number two pick in the 2008 draft. He was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves after two mediocre seasons, further establishing himself as a marginal NBA player at best during his time in Minny. Beasley played the 2012-2013 with the Phoenix Suns before Miami took its second flier on him as a deep reserve last season.

The Kansas State product was waived midway through training camp by the Memphis Grizzlies in October and subsequently signed a deal with the Shanghai Sharks. Though Beasley put up stellar numbers of 28.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game in China, he fittingly failed to lead his team to the playoffs.

Despite the Heat being ravaged by injuries, don’t expect Beasley to be anything more than roster filler and situational sub for Erik Spoelstra. D-League call-up Henry Walker has firmly established himself as a rotational cog at nominal power forward, helping plug the gaping hole left by the absences of Chris Bosh and Josh McRoberts. With Udonis Haslem and Chris Andersen still around, too, it seems Beasley will play the role of Miami’s fifth big.

Either way, it sure is good to have SuperCoolBeas back! The league’s a better place when littered with characters like him.
