Here’s the best video you’ll see today — an elderly, shaggy dog practically crying as she greets her owner who has just come home from basic training.
In the video, the dog lies down on the owner’s lap, while making a squealing sound, and shaking her leg excitedly. She keeps making that happy-crying sound. The owner pets her and exclaims, “Aw, she’s so happy. You’re so happy!” Dog and owner even hold hands/paws, while some unseen grownups sigh about how cute this all is. Agreed.
Buzzfeed has some background behind this video. The dog owner is Private Hannah Foraker, who left her home in Ohio for the first time last year to go to basic training. In doing so, she had to leave her golden retriever, Buddy, behind. Buddy is 13 years old, and Foraker has had her since she was a puppy.
When Foraker came home for the holidays, Buddy was super excited. “We opened the front door and she came running out and greeted me and my family, but then kind of did a double take and came back to me,” Foraker said. For the two weeks that Foraker was home, the dog — who usually has trouble walking and exerting herself — was happier and more active.
