Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is busy filming, and while the set has a tight ship, that doesn’t mean absolutely nothing leaks. And two huge spoilers, one about Nathan Fillion’s role in the movie and the other about setting, are intriguing. Needless to say, don’t read any further if you want plot spoilers.
Let’s start with Nathan Fillion, who may be taking on a superhero role that isn’t Captain Hammer. An Imgur gallery shows off a bunch of fake movie posters from the set, all starring Fillion, which range from fun little nods to Gunn’s past with Troma Pictures to in-jokes only Marvel’s most hardcore of nerds will get. But most fascinating is that it’s the “Simon Williams Film Festival.” Williams is better known as Wonder Man, a villain who goes straight, ultimately joining the Avengers before moving to Hollywood and having a successful acting career. It’s unlikely we’ll see Fillion pitch in during Infinity War, but if he does, we know who he’s playing.
Most interesting, though, is that as part of Williams’ seemingly decades-spanning career is a recent biopic of Marvel’s most famous industrialist/war criminal, Tony Stark. Unless Tony got up to some major shenanigans in the 1990s, or there’s a flashback to the mid 2000s, this photo gallery leads us to speculate that the Guardians will be coming to Earth. It would line up with the claims they have a role to play in Avengers: Infinity War. Hopefully, when they arrive, they receive the proper welcoming committee.
