Grimes Dances Up A Storm In Her New Music Video For ‘California’

Canadian singer, producer, and all-around creative force Grimes released her most accessible work yet, Art Angels, to wide acclaim last year (it made our Best Albums of 2015 list). Now she’s released a music video for “California,” one of the most easily pop-ready singles from the LP after teasing it on her Instagram this weekend. It follows two previous music videos from Art Angels, a two-parter for “Flesh without Blood” and “Life in the Vivid Dream,” as well as January’s “Kill V. Maim.”

The “California” music video is dubbed Act IV in a series for Art Angels and includes cameos from singer Megan James of Purity Ring, musician HANA, model Eric Cheng, musician Born Gold, as well as her brother and usual co-director Mac Boucher. The colorful clip matches the sun-drenched production, which is an even more poppy mix than the album version. It features Grimes dancing and having an overall good time, despite the melancholy lyrics.

Last week Grimes performed the aforementioned “Flesh Without Blood” on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and she’s currently on tour through August with stops at Lollapalooza, FYF Fest, Moogfest, and Hangout Music Festival. She’ll also be opening for Florence and The Machine for two nights in June at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
