This past weekend, a new ballet called Tree of Codes debuted at the Manchester International Festival, a project that features a score of work by The xx member and solo producer Jamie xx.
The ballet, inspired by the Jonathan Safran Foer novel of the same name, opened on July 3 to rave reviews by critics and adoring fans alike. The crew from Jamie xx’s label, Young Turks, were front and center on opening night, and shared a candid video and insider details about the ballet on Instagram.

FAO: all those who can get to Manchester in the next 6 days. We've included all 6 of the bows from last nights #TreeOfCodes , not to highlight how uncomfortable public adoration makes Jamie, but to implore you to go see #TreeOfCodes whilst you still can. We won't spoil too much but @jamie___xx has scored 75 minutes of original music, @studioolafureliasson created all the staging & visuals and #WayneMcGregor choreographed a combination of his Random Dance Company and @benjaminmillepied's @balletoperadeparis in the most sublime of contemporary ballets. It's only on till Friday at @mifestival (which in itself is an unparalleled vortex of joy and learning) and once you've missed it, all you'll have is ashes and Instagram to imagine it by. Go now to www.mif.co.uk and organise attendance immediately.
Stage designer Olafur Eliasson also shared behind the scenes moments from opening night.
Earlier this month, Jamie xx shared a clip of a new song “Pianna” written for Tree of Codes. Listen below.
