Since Prince died last month, there have been a parade of tributes to the iconic singer, with musicians, actors, and comedians taking turns honoring him in some form or fashion. An official memorial has yet to be planned, but the unofficial tributes have been endlessly enjoyable and touching. Now politicians are stepping up and taking their turn with a Prince tribute that could very well be the one Prince may have appreciated the most.

The Minnesota Legislature has introduced a bill honoring the Purple Minnesotan, one they are calling the ‘PRINCE Act.’ The name is short for ‘Personal Rights in Names Can Endure.’ If you take note of the first letter of each word of the bill’s name, the nickname makes sense. The ‘PRINCE Act’ would “give extended publicity control to the musician’s estate, limiting outside of his name and likeness in commercial pursuits.” It would cover the next half century, as well as apply retroactively to those opportunistic eager beavers who tried to capitalize on Prince’s death before the bill is passed.

Since Prince was ferociously protective of his name, it’s a fitting tribute. If anything, it’s one he would have loved to have thought of himself.
