“Being Beige” is a Smashing Pumpkins song in name only. Billy Corgan’s still around, but James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin, and D’arcy Wretzky? They’re long gone, having been replaced by Tommy Lee and Jeff Schroeder. No wonder “Beige” is so blah. It feels like it’s going to build to something big and beautiful but never really does, and there’s no reason for Corgan’s vocals to be so up front in the mix, beside the fact that he’s a megalomaniac. That explains a lot, actually.
