ESPN Magazine’s Body Issue Will Feature A Bunch Of Naked Superheroes

Disney has never been subtle about its cross-promotion. If you own Cinderella on DVD, there’s hours of sports highlights shoved onto the disc as “Cinderella Moments in Sports.” But, hey, at least we’re going to get some naked superheroes out of its latest awkward moment of corporate synergy.

If you’re not up on your tastefully composed nudity, ESPN Magazine has an annual “Body Issue,” which is essentially a big pile of artfully photographed naked athletes. The idea is, of course, to celebrate the human form and how finely crafted said human form happens to be on a bunch of famous people who a lot of people want to see sans pants. And this year, Marvel heroes are getting in on the tastefully-done nudes act.

For nerds, the appeal beyond Marvel artists getting frisky is that they interview the artists about what goes into figure drawing for comic books; where they get their inspiration, what they use for models, their thought process as they draw the characters. Plus, there are naked superheroes drawn by professionals, for once, instead of creepy fan art or French medical students.

If you’re interested in reading the thoughts of artists, the special insert will be available, along with the “Body” issue itself, on newsstands tomorrow.
