We’ve heard whispers here and there for more than a year now, faint little whispers promising us potentially exciting things, but now — now — we have physical proof. Pictures. Sounds. Pictures and sounds together! And not just a vague teaser, either. Actual footage from the actual thing. Netflix’s A Very Murray Christmas is happening.
For those in need of a refresher, here’s a quick rundown of the special’s plot, via the official press release:
Written by Sofia Coppola, Bill Murray and Mitch Glazer and directed by Sofia Coppola, A Very Murray Christmas is an homage to the classic variety show featuring Bill Murray playing himself, as he worries no one will show up to his TV show due to a terrible snowstorm in New York City. Through luck and perseverance, guests arrive at the Carlyle hotel to help him; dancing and singing in holiday spirit.
The list of stars is certainly impressive, including George Clooney, Chris Rock, Miley Cyrus, Amy Poehler, Jason Schwartzman, Michael Cera, Maya Rudolph, and Rashida Jones, among others. Probably! Apologies for all the exclamation points in this post. It’s just that there is something so wonderful about Bill Murray deciding to get all his famous friends together to make the biggest, fanciest Christmas special he can, for no apparent reason other than, “I think I’d like to make a Christmas special.” The most wonderful time of the year, indeed.
