A ‘Game Of Thrones’ Director May Have Just Confirmed The Show’s Shortened Future

This season of Game of Thrones continues to be one of its strongest, but viewers can’t shake the feeling that it’s starting to wind down. As the different players circle the Iron Throne, there is only so much time until the ultimate clash takes place. It was rumored that seasons seven and eight would not only be the final two for the HBO show, but they would also be shortened from the traditional 10 episodes.

Director Jack Bender broke fans’ hearts with the tragic, time traveling backstory of Hodor in “Hold The Door” (much like he previously did on Lost in “The Constant”) and set the stage for war in “Blood Of My Blood,” so he’s been a major behind-the-scenes mover and shaker this season.

Bender recently spoke with Vanity Fair‘s Joanna Robinson and seemingly confirmed the rumor that there are few precious hours left in Westeros. When asked if he would be directing an episode next season, Bender replied:

“I don’t know the answer to that. They’re only doing seven [episodes], and they’ve got their regulars who have done it forever. I know that I had a wonderful experience doing the show and I know that Dan and David are thrilled with the shows… I haven’t been asked yet and I also don’t know what their schedule is going to be. But under the best of circumstances, schedule and everything, I had a great experience doing the show. If available and they wanted me to, I would love to do that.”

There you have it, folks. Start making your peace with the old gods and the new, because Game of Thrones‘ days are likely numbered.
