Fret no more, fans of Tales from the Crypt. M. Night Shyamalan has officially confirmed that his new version of the classic HBO show will definitely have a Crypt Keeper welcoming viewers to the story each week, contrary to earlier reports. Whether the skeletal host will look the same as fans remember from the original series or a take on a new look under Shyamalan’s guidance is yet to be decided, but either way, the anthology series will welcome everyone each week with a creepy smile and a thematically appropriate outfit.
Furthermore, Shyamalan is changing his mind about a few other aspects of the show. According to his conversation with /Film, the plan to construct the series as an anthology on a season-long level is also being switched out for another option:
“You know, I can’t say 100% but I’m thinking right now, where I am, if you’d asked me this six months ago I would have a different answer, but where I am right now it’s more individual Black Mirror kind of stuff right now”
Which is good news, seeing as everybody loves some of that “Black Mirror kind of stuff,” and that format will give more scary stories the chance to see the light of day. Not to mention that a dozen stories every season instead of a single tale will include many more up-and-coming actors (and probably a few established ones as well) giving us good scares. With any luck, the show will unearth the next M. Night Shyamalan himself (or herself) sometime during the reboot. Now wouldn’t that be a fun twist.
