I’m really torn here, guys. On one hand I could not be more done with a brings-the-worst-out-of-everyone “controversy” centered around the opinions of a man whose opinions no one should give a sh*t about, but on the other hand here’s Stephen Colbert talking lady parts versus man parts and attributing the bible with quotes like, “Man should not live by bread alone because with the vagina there’s more there.” So yeah, I gotta share.
Let’s just all agree that Colbert in a ZZ Top beard painting this whole thing in the perfect light is the last we’ll ever speak of this. Thank you and good day.
I think Sarah Palin is auditioning to be a writer on Colbert or the Daily Show:
“Now, A&E, they were absolute ‘quacks’ on this one.”
OW, MY SIDES ARE HURTING FROM ALL THE LAUGHTER.
with that?
I’m not going to defend all of Phil’s statements, but it bothers me Colbert took his quote out of context and cut it off after the bestiality part. I don’t like that people exclude the other sins he compared it to just because they want to make him sound worse.
Comparing it to any sin at all makes him sound pretty awful.
Bumbie, the only reason we should be upset at the context and having the last part of it “cut off” is if that last part was “just kidding.”
Well, to be fair and provide context, he did compare homosexuality to drunkenness and terrorism.
This backwoods Louisiana redneck is, surprise of surprises, an asshat. Now, being an asshat isn’t a disqualification from reality TV. If anything it’s a resumé booster. But A&E is sending the message that they do not want to be associated with a *vocal* asshat whose asshatery extends into the range of whitewashing the history of the Jim Crow South while viewing an interior designer from Greenwich and Anders Brevik as wholly transitive on the scale of offence to Jeezus.
It’s one thing to say “I don’t agree with that lifestyle”. I feel the same way about people who put Nutella on bagels. However, I pull up short of equating those people to murderers. This guy doesn’t.
Remember, Mitt Romney said corporations are people – and the Supreme Court agrees. Corporations have a right to freedom of speech as well, and that entails the ability to terminate business or representation with a person who doesn’t represent their values, views or beliefs.
“I feel the same way about people who put Nutella on bagels. However, I pull up short of equating those people to murderers.”
I don’t. Fuck those terrorists.
I don’t think you guys are getting that any sin can separate us from God (Isaiah 59:2). Whether that be something as small as lying (Rev 21:8) or something as terrible as murder (Matt 5:21). All sin falls somewhere in that spectrum. Now that’s not saying that liars are as bad as murderers, but both people are in danger of the judgement unless they turn away from their lives of sin, and ask God for forgiveness. (1 John 1:9)
I don’t think you get that not everyone you talk to cares what the bible says.
I know.. but it’s not going to stop me from from trying to spread the word.
Also
“I’m not going to defend all of Phil’s statements”
Pray tell, what is one statement made in that article that you *would* defend?
“We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell. That’s the Almighty’s job. We just love ’em, give ’em the good news about Jesus—whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort ’em out later”
I’d defend that. It’s a Christian’s job to deliver the word without judgement. After that it’s between them and God
“a vagina would be more desirable than a man’s anus.” Definitely defensible.
I don’t see how it is. If you aren’t treating anyone different based on what their sins are, and delivering the word of God to all men, then how is that judging? Jonah got in trouble for this when he refused to go help the people of Ninevah.
Jesus told the apostles to go out into all the world and spread the gospel. Were they judging when they were following Jesus’ commandments? If not the why is it different if we do it today?
Paul said “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” (2 Timothy 4:2) is that judging?
His cover of “Legs” would be better than Kid Rock’s.
Stop talking about this, he said “good day !”
I don’t really understand why this is big news. They asked an old backwoods duck hunting christian hick his opinion on gay people and black people, what do you think he was going to say?
