The year: 2074. In a retirement home. IN SPACE. Grandkids Danny and Bella Boo Boo Bot are visiting. “Grandpa Josh,” B to the fourth asks, “What was the year 2012 like?” A brief pause. “Well, it’s like this,” I begin, “do you remember the end of Star Wars Episode XIV?” The grandkids nod vigorously. “It wasn’t like that at all.” Another longer pause. I continue, “There was no Jedi Jar Jar. No Baby Han Solo fighting Baby Greedo. No 15-minute interlude to salute Lord General Disney.” The kids stand. “HAIL DISNEY.” They salute. They sit. “There were a lot of dogs in 2012. A LOT. And it was wonderful. Let me show you something.”
