A journey that began with “boy, that Aaron Hernandez seems to be in a sticky situation” has reached the darkest of conclusions. That the former* Patriots tight end was charged with murder isn’t exactly a surprise, but it sucks to read the official ESPN story regardless:
“Police have charged Aaron Hernandez with murder and five weapons counts in connection with the death of Odin Lloyd, whose body was found in an industrial park about a mile from the former New England Patriots tight end’s home.”
It seems ages ago, but the 23-year-old Florida alum was one of the game’s best tight ends in 2011, putting up a 910-yard, 7-TD season. NFL fans had every reason to believe that, with Tom Brady running the show, his best was yet to come. Unless some dramatic evidence surfaces, it looks like those expectations will never be met, replaced by yet another cautionary tale of athletes, guns and violence.
*– Hours after the arrest, New England officially dropped Hernandez from their roster.
