First, the good news. British “Artist for Hire” Phillip Blackman – no, not Master Phillip Blackman, Taekwondo expert, silly – has outdone himself with a new series of zombie teddy bears, and that’s no small feat as his previous work was already incredible enough. Blackman’s latest effort is probably good enough to cause a zombie nerd storm, as he has collected old teddy bears and turned them into hellish celebrations of the adorable undead, like the furry demon in the banner above.
He calls them UndeadTeds, and simply put: “UndeadTeds are repurposed soft toys transformed into fluffy, bloody horrors to keep you awake at night.”
Now the bad news – Blackman’s UndeadTeds are all sold out. Priced between £39 and £59 (my smart friends who do things like “invest” and “save” money told me that is roughly $61 to $93 in America) the ready-made UndeadTeds are available for shipping worldwide.
Unfortunately, the second wave of bad news is that Blackman’s custom UndeadTeds, of which he proclaims to already have a large backorder, are only available in the UK. Unbelievable. It’s been 237 years and we still can’t bridge the gap between English retailers and American consumers. Not even for the sake of buying a stuffed animal that could potentially scar a small child for life.
Blackman claimed in a response to Tumblr user “macprogirly” that he was hoping to have some new Teds up today, so I will be watching with my fingers crossed. Alas, he said that he will only have a few available, because “they take a lot of time and effort to make”, and because he appreciates that whole fairness thing (sucker), he won’t let people reserve them. So if you want to get your hands on an UndeadTed, keep an eye on Blackman’s Etsy shop.
In the meantime, you can hug your monitor while you check out some of the Teds that Blackman has already sold. It’s practically the same thing.
