UPROXX 20: Scott Aukerman Has 170 Episodes Of ‘The Simpsons’ On His DVR

Scott Aukerman is a host/writer/comedian probably best known for hosting the podcast, Comedy Bang Bang, and the IFC show, Comedy Bang! Bang! Additionally, you may remember Scott from his appearances on Mr. Show, for which he also served as a writer. The Savannah, Georgia native is also the co-creator of Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis and co-founder of the Earwolf podcast network. Most importantly of all, Scott holds the distinction of being the only two-time UPROXX live discussion guest. Comedy Bang! Bang! returns for its fourth season on IFC tonight at 11pm EST.

Scott was nice enough to take a few minutes out of his busy schedule recently to answer a few questions from us.

1. You walk into a bar. What do your order from the bartender?

I think that’s so presumptuous – “order?” Let’s change it to “request.” I think bartenders should be able to decide for themselves if they want to give you that drink or not – THIS IS AMERICA!!!

2. Who’s your favorite person to follow on Twitter?

I really like Joe Mande – he’s a great standup and writer for Parks and Rec. He constantly RT’s anyone foolish – celebrities being idiots, politicians who slip up, businesses using national tragedies to seem empathetic. The amount of twitter feeds he must sort through on a daily basis is impressive.

3. What’s currently waiting for you on your DVR/TiVO?

We’ve been shooting more episodes of Comedy Bang! Bang!, so everything is piling up there. Full seasons of Fargo, Penny Dreadful, and Orphan Black. I taped 170 episodes of The Simpsons when they had the marathon that I’ll probably never watch. I’m being crushed underneath severe DVR weight.

4. It’s your last meal — what are you going out with?

Just one single popsicle. Seriously, what’s better than a popsicle? It’s like juice, but frozen! Plus I want to look nice and trim in my (open) casket.

5. What websites do you visit on a regular basis?

Call me crazy, but I’m a Google guy! Nothing better when you want to look up one of your favorite pieces o’ info!

6. What’s the most frequently played song on your iPod?

Since it’s on random, this is completely by chance, but it’s the Billy on the Street theme song. Rockin’ tune!

7. The first face that comes to mind when you think “punchable”?

(SIGHHHH) Mine.

8. What’s your favorite meme?

The one with the picture and that funny saying.

9. Dogs or cats?

How dare you? Dogs, of course. I’m not some savage.

10. Best concert of your life was…?

I think it’s a tie between Radiohead 1998 / Fishbone 1987 / Crowded House 1989 / The Vandals 1999 / Elliott Smith 1996.

11. What book are you most likely to give as a gift?

The Giving Tree. It’s about some weirdo tree that talks. It’s a trip!

12. What’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?

There was this woman who let me come out of her vagina and become alive once. That was pretty cool.

13. South Park or Family Guy?

Probably South Park, as I don’t have children.

14. You have an entire day to do whatever you want. What would you do?

I presume I would sleep during part of it. Probably for about a third of it – around eight hours or so. Whenever I get tired. I might work during part of it – maybe another third, around eight hours. Probably eat three times – for about three hours. Hit the gym and pump some iron – about two hours. Which leaves three hours – enough time to watch the ol’ Corleone Family get up to some hijinks in the movie The Godfather! (1972; Paramount Pictures)

15. What movie can you not resist watching if it’s on?

I think “The Rock” is pretty watchable. Now, I know it sounds like it would be boring – who wants to watch some dumb, inanimate rock for two hours? But it’s actually about a couple of actors who are pretending to be other people that are going to Alcatraz. Fun!

16. What’s your favorite sports team or teams?

The Utah Jazz, just for the name. Nothing better than some authentic Utah Jazz.

17. Where did you eat the best meal of your life?

I had a tuna melt in some hotel restaurant once about fifteen years ago… I think about that a lot. But I never went back there to have another one – it was just too perfect to spoil.

18. The last movie you saw in a theater?

I saw Gone Girl the other night – it sparked quite an interesting conversation between me and my wife! (I couldn’t remember where we parked, and she got annoyed with me.)

19. Who was your first celebrity crush?

Sarah Linderman, who sat next to me in English at Lexington Junior High. Did she ever become a celebrity, like she wanted?

20. What would you cook if Nic Cage was coming to your house for dinner?

Probably “free range” chicken – because they’re NOT in cages. And I would just rub it in his face – “You’re eating something not imprisoned by your name!”
