The Reason Jaylen Brown Won’t Take Time Off After Summer League Will Make Celtics Fans Love Him

As Kristaps Porzingis can attest, being booed on draft night doesn’t always mean you’re destined for a failed NBA career. Jaylen Brown felt the ire of Celtics fans when they reached for him third overall last month, but he is putting work in to ensure that Boston fans come around.

Brown had another stellar performance in Summer League on Friday in a loss to the Blazers as he put up 21 points to go along with seven rebounds and five steals. That was coming off a game earlier against the Mavs where Brown scored 20 and also had 10 boards and four takeaways, so while the NBA is obviously a completely different animal than Summer League, the former Cal star is already proving he can stuff a stat sheet.

He was also impressive with his comments to the media after the game. First, Brown emulated one of the great all-time Celtics Kevin Garnett by remarking KG’s sentiment that “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”

Then, Brown endeared himself even further to Boston fans by saying he would not be taking any time off after Summer League as he prepared for his rookie year.

If that doesn’t start to warm up the fans to Brown, I’m not sure that anything will.
