‘The Fantastic Four’ Reboot Has A ‘Found Footage’ Feel

Emma Watts has been the president of production at Fox since 2009, and instead of movies about baking and purses like everyone naturally assumed a woman would make, she’s actually put together some pretty great action stuff, highlighted by saving the ‘X-Men’ franchise after getting the great Matthew Vaughn to direct ‘First Class’ and then bringing Bryan Singer back for ‘Days of Future Past’ (though that may be topped if she really can manage to get Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise together in ‘Go Like Hell’).

The other Fox comic franchise, ‘the Fantastic Four’, which is being rebooted with ‘Chronicle’ directer Josh Trank, still sounds absolutely terrible however, and somehow manages to sound worse every day. Like yesterday for example, in this interview with the Hollywood Reporter:

THR: Will the Fantastic Four reboot have any of the same found-footage feel that Chronicle did?

WATTS: It’s Josh, so it can’t not have that feel. That’s his talent, that’s what he does, and that’s what excites him about it. It is a really interesting young cast, and he is the magnet that’s brought them all together.

Oh the cast is interesting alright; Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm. Other than Mara, and acting talent aside, the casting looks awful. It’s just… weird. Not to mention that when you cast a black guy as the Human Torch, and a white girl as his sister, you’re simply begging for “I thought he couldn’t be burnt” jokes.
