Leland Yee displaying his inspiration.
Well, here’s another one for the “no longer surprising at all” file — yet another politician who built a career on pious moral crusading has been arrested for corruption. This time around we’re talking about Leland Yee, the California politician who spearheaded a law criminalizing the sale of violent video games to children (a law that was later struck down by the Supreme Court).
So, what is Yee being accused of? Taking a few extra bucks under the table? Breaking some obscure conflict of interest rule? Haha, no, he’s facing charges of bribery, setting up marijuana deals and brokering the sale of arms to the mafia. Yeah, the guy going after virtual guns was selling real guns to gangsters. Oh, and did I mention this guy was also a big gun control advocate? Real life is f–king preposterous man.
Leland Yee famously dropped this condescension bomb when he was in the thick of his video game witch-hunt…
“Gamers have got to just quiet down. Gamers have no credibility in this argument. This is all about their lust for violence and the industry’s lust for money. This is a billion-dollar industry. This is about their self-interest.”
Following his arrest Yee has, thus far, remained quiet.
