Fast National ratings for Monday, May 18, 2009.
Did viewers forget that most of Monday’s programming was new? Several heavily hyped premieres and finales delivered only lackluster ratings for the night.
Among adults 18-49, CBS scored a 3.9 rating, topping ABC’s 3.4 rating and the 3.0 rating for FOX in the key demographic. NBC was a distant fourth with a 1.5 rating, with The CW’s 1.2 rating close behind.
Overall, though, ABC averaged an estimated 12.18 million viewers in primetime to go with an 8.0 rating/13 share, nipping the 7.6/12 for CBS. FOX was third with a 5.6/9, followed by NBC’s 3.5/6 and the 1.7/3 for The CW.
ABC got the night started with a commanding 11.9/20 for “Dancing with the Stars.” The first hour of FOX’s “24” finale had a 5.3/9, nipping CBS’ “Rules of Engagement” (4.7/8) and “How I Met Your Mother” (5.4/9). NBC’s “Deal Or No Deal” finished fourth, topping the 1.6/3 for the season finale of “Gossip Girl” on The CW.
CBS moved into first at 9 p.m. with the 8.9/14 for “Two and a Half Men” and “Rules of Engagement.” ABC’s premiere of “The Bachelorette” was down to a 6.6/10, still better than the 6.0/9 for the finale of “24.” NBC’s “Deal or No Deal” was fourth, bettering the 1.7/3 for “One Tree Hill.”
“CSI: Miami” closed in first with an 8.9/15 for CBS. ABC’s “Bachelorette” lost viewers with every single half-hour, both overall and in the key demo, but still easily beat the 4.4/7 for “Medium” on NBC.
