Rihanna is filling out her acting CV with some serious stuff these days. She’s playing Marion Crane in the upcoming season of Bates Motel, which is… surprising. Though it’s not as surprising at the fact that she, along with Mindy Kaling, will join Sandra Bullock’s group of thieves and con artists in Ocean’s Eight.
RiRi joints the Ocean’s 11 spin-off ensemble, which already includes Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, and the aforementioned Ms. Bullock — just to name a few. In reality, Rihanna’s acting experience isn’t much, which is the exact opposite of these ladies. She did Battleship (although we’re sure she wants you to forget it), played herself in This Is The End, did some voice work in Home, and made a cameo in the Annie remake. Now she’s running with Oscar winners, nominees, and women who know how to be funny, though. Like Kaling, who was also in This Is The End. This will be biggest role as well but clearly she can hold her own.
Gary Ross is a strong director with a solid filmography, and the producers happen to be the same guys who brought us Ocean’s 11, so Rihanna will be in good hands. Plus, let’s be honest — all she needs to do is be competent, because these flicks don’t exactly require a lot of depth. We all know she can look cool and that’s all Brad Pitt did in the originals, right?
