NBA — Wellllll looky here. The Celtics are going to have to grow some balls and win on the road if they want to go to the Finals. Boston got solid performances from all of the Big Three, but Detroit's Slightly Larger Than Average Five proved equal to the task as Detroit stole a road win at the Garden, 103-97. Numbers numbers points boxscore whatever. Bill Simmons is already hard at work on a column rationalizing the loss.
NHL — Weren't there some Stanley Cup playoffs going on? Are they ever going to start the Finals? What the hell is the NHL waiting for?
MLB — Two first-place expansion teams with more storied histories and World Series wins than the Mariners finished their series, with the Marlins completing a three-game sweep of the Diamondbacks in front of a raucous crowd of (dramatic pause) 13,000… Johan Santana wasn't quite himself, but it's not like the Mets broke their bats trying to get him run support as the Braves finished a four-game sweep in Atlanta with a 4-2 win… Last night in the American League, they used the designated hitter.
