MLB – Yesterday’s choke watch will have to be ramped up to high alert, as the Mets have completed their tumble from three and a half games up in the NL East to behind the Phillies in a mere six days. Yesterday, they dropped their seventh game in a row in Washington in a September game the last two season, getting blanked by 1-0 by Odalis Perez, who also scored the game’s only run… The Rays regained sole possession of the AL East thanks to lights-out pitching from Andy Sonnanstine and the Tampa bullpen. Dioner Navarro had the bases loaded walk-off single that won it in the 9th…Fortunately for the Mets, the Brewers are in freefall mode as well. Milwaukee ceded its wild card lead to the Mets yesterday after the Cubs handed CC Sabathia his first loss in the National League. Dave Sveum should be getting canned any minute now…Ryan Howard launched a go-ahead two-run homer in the 8th, only to watch Brad Lidge play fast and loose with the 8-7 lead, loading the bases before closing out the Braves.
NFL – The Colts injury woes continue, with Bob Sanders now expected to be out 4-6 weeks with a high ankle sprain. But he doesn’t play offensive line!…Tommy Kelly is foolish if he thinks his DUI will help him join coach Lane Kiffin in the unemployment line. The Raiders only fire coaches without justification, not players with it…Ben Roethlisberger’s shoulder is, again, officially sprained, not separated. So it looks like he and shoulder may try to work it out. How nice.
