Woody Allen’s Amazon series is still going great.
It doesn’t have a title, or a premise, and the only public comment the ever-controversial Allen has given about the show is, “Amazon kept coming to me and saying, ‘Please do this, whatever you want.’ I kept saying I have no ideas for it, that I never watch television. I don’t know the first thing about it… I have regretted every second since I said okay. It’s been so hard for me.”
Can’t wait! But hey, at least it has a (partial) cast.
Allen has set the principal cast for the six half-hour-episode series that will take place in the 1960s, and it certainly is unexpected. Allen, who wrote the scripts and will direct, has set Elaine May and Miley Cyrus to star alongside him. I don’t know a lot more than this, as Allen is shrewd offering information on his projects. I’m 87 percent certain Allen has never met Miley Cyrus, and has no idea who she is (unless she sang the national anthem at a Knicks game). The first day on set, he’s going to take one look at the former Hannah Montana, with her neon pacifier and pink pasties, and turn into Abe Simpson. “We used to keep our penises in our pants. Unless you took the Manhattan-bound Q train to Times Square for a nudie picture. That’s when a movie was a movie. Clark Gable, Jean Harlow, the Marx Brothers. It’s like Groucho Marx once said…”
This TV show will never get made.
