Dirk Nowitzki Reached 50,000 Minutes Playing With The Wrong Name On His Jersey

Dirk Nowitzki reached an important milestone on Monday night, though if we’re giving credit for minutes played based on spelling, he’s still a bit short of the mark.

The Dallas Mavericks veteran surpassed 50,000 career minutes played in a game against the 104-101 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night. Dirk needed just seven minutes to reach the milestone, which he did in the second quarter. He finished with 12 points on 4 of 11 shooting and a total of 25 minutes.

There was one issue, though, as his name was spelled wrong on his jersey. Check out Dirk “Nowitkzi” over here.

Dirk said he had “no idea” about the jersey error until after the game, though he did have a sense of humor about the whole thing.

Before the game, according to an ESPN report, Nowitzki joked that he’s already well past 50,000 minutes. But the milestone is quite impressive: just five other NBA players have reached that mark: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kevin Garnett, Jason Kidd and Elvin Hayes. Dallas may be just 17-27 on the year, but at least the team had one night to honor Nowitzki for all he’s accomplished for the Mavs. Even when he’s wearing the a janky uniform.
