If there are two things we know about Drake, it’s that he’s friends with a lot of NBA players and he’s an extremely front-running sports fan. The fact that he’s the kind of person who isn’t from the Bay Area but already has a Kevin Durant Warriors jersey is the least surprising development of the summer.
Drake’s “Summer Sixteen” co-headlining tour with Future came to Oracle Arena on Tuesday night, and he not only rocked that jersey, but brought out Durant during his set, which got a huge reaction from the crowd (video above).
Drake has a history with Durant. In the summer of 2014, he got in a little trouble with the NBA for recruiting Durant to the Raptors during a concert in Toronto. Because Drake was a “Global Ambassador” for the Raptors, the comments were considered to be tampering and he was fined $25,000 by the NBA.
Obviously, Durant didn’t sign with the Raptors this summer in free agency, so that isn’t a consideration for Drake anymore. He’s now free to be a bandwagon fan for the Warriors in peace, without worrying about the impact on his bank account.
Drake is playing a second show at Oracle Arena on Wednesday night. Maybe he’ll bring out Anderson Varejao this time.
