Steph Curry Helps Usher In The Future Of Sports Performance Technology

Over the past few years, the world of professional sports has been leveraging technology and the Information Age to improve athletes’ performance in ways that are difficult to comprehend and/or explain in layman’s terms. Suffice it to say that they’re using enormous amounts of data to make athletes even better at what they do.

Steph Curry, the most popular basketball player on the planet and a longtime partner of Degree, is now helping that company launch a new sports technology venture called the Degree MotionSense Lab. Here’s more from their official press release:

Degree, the world’s first deodorant activated by movement, is furthering their commitment to motion-focused research and innovation by partnering with Lightwave, a bioanalytics technology company that measures motion, movement and emotional indicators, to power the Lab.

We’re kicking off the Lab with an exclusive content series, narrated by Dell Curry, featuring never-before-seen data that breaks down and examines every inch of Stephen’s movement on the court – dissecting the speed, evasiveness and reaction time of the All-Star. This marks the first time that the actual physical and emotional undercurrent of his performance has been studied.

If a lot of that sounds like vague techno-babble, then you’re not alone, but their official website features some pretty cool GIFs and the above videos — narrated by Dell– help explain some pretty insane numbers associated with Curry’s on-court performance.

For example, look at how fast Steph gets his shot off:

Or what about that seemingly-impossible-to-block floater Curry lofts in the air to avoid the rotating big?

Yeah, science is pretty cool.
