Mass Effect Gets Movie Deal, But What About The “Sex Scenes”?

If you’ve got a popular video game, of course you’re going to try to put it up on the big screen. Heck, you’ve already got a built in fanbase that’ll see it (if only on the first weekend) and its usually not the hardest thing in the world to adapt the story to a screenplay (Unless you’re Uwe Boll… but then I bet a lot of things are harder if you’re Uwe Boll.) So, it makes sense that Legendary Pictures would pick up the rights to Mass Effect and hire I Am Legend writer Mark Protosevich to script it. After all, it’s got a strong story and a strong fanbase. It’s also got a lead character that can boink just about any other character in the game, so it’ll be interesting to see if that makes it into the film.

If you haven’t played it before, it’s a Sci-Fi military adventure following an Earth soldier in a galaxy where Earth has only recently joined a more-advanced galactic council of other races.  Most races can use “dark energy” to power faster-than-light-ships and to harness telekinetic-like abilities called “biotics.”

Now, the media made a big dead about the game’s “sex scenes” when it came out, but they’re not really explicit – you don’t see any space jugs or retro-rocket action. It’s more that your character can decide to romance certain other characters (different ones depending on whether you choose a male or female character.) and then it eventually leads to sex…tastefully cropped sex. You don’t get to see much more than some side-boob or loving shots of a tight spacesuit on a CGI ass. I’m just curious who will be the film’s inevitable love interest. I’m betting one of the several hot human women…I’m sure the execs wouldn’t dare alienate middle America by having an Alien/human sex scene.
