Peter Jackson, MGM, Warner Brothers, and New Line Cinema have officially announced the cast of The HobbitNot surprisingly, Martin Freeman is playing Bilbo Baggins. Here’s a round up of the rest of the official cast so far:

  • Richard Armitage — Thorin Oakenshield, the leader of the Company of Dwarves reclaiming Lonely Mountain from a dragon
  • Aidan Turner and Rob Kazinsky — Kili and Fili, the nephews of Thorin Oakenshield and also members of the Company of Dwarves
  • Graham McTavish — Dwalin, the first dwarf to arrive at Bag End
  • Peter Hambleton — Glóin, the father of Gimli and a fire-maker along with his brother Óin
  • John Callen — Óin, the brother of Glóin
  • Mark Hadlow — Dori, the strongest Dwarf
  • Stephen Hunter — Bombur, the fat, sleepy comic relief

It’s rumored that James Nesbitt, David Tennant, Stephen Fry, Saoirse Ronan, and Bill Nighy may have roles as well.  Ian McKellan and Andy Serkis will likely reprise their roles as Gandalf and Gollum, although nothing has been officially announced about that yet.  I guess the megaphone I talk into when I follow the Access Hollywood correspondents around on their days off isn’t “official” enough.
