The Wizards Are Reportedly Interested In Acquiring Derrick Rose After He Was Waived By The Jazz

Derrick Rose‘s tenure in Cleveland came to an unceremonious end at the NBA’s trade deadline. Rose was shipped to Utah in the three-team deal that saw Rodney Hood and George Hill go to the Cavaliers, and it always seemed like a matter of time before the Jazz and the former MVP went their separate ways.

That ended up happening on Saturday afternoon, as Utah announced it had decided to waive Rose. The Jazz’s PR team announced the news on Twitter.

It wasn’t an especially surprising move — Rose would have been a strange fit in Utah, even if they could use some point guard help in the immediate future following the day-to-day diagnosis Ricky Rubio received while battling hip soreness. This does raise a question, though: What team, if any, will be interested in acquiring Rose’s services?

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, a squad to watch is the Washington Wizards, which needs some point guard help as John Wall is working his way back from knee surgery and has turned to Tomas Satoransky and Tim Frazier to run the offense in Wall’s absence.

Washington isn’t the only team that would like to make a move on Rose, who averaged 9.8 points and 1.6 assists in 19.3 minutes per game with the Cavs. Previous reports indicated there was mutual interest between Rose and Tom Thibodeau in a Bulls reunion in Minnesota.
