The New Prodigy Mural In Queens Was Defaced And Instantly Repaired This Weekend

It was not even a month ago that legendary MC Prodigy of Mobb Deep passed away just days after being hospitalized for complications related to his sickle-cell anemia. The whole hip hop world mourned, and artists Jeff Henriquez and Eli “Eli Eos” Lazare decided to pay homage with a gigantic mural in Queens to honor P, which they completed after hours of work this week. Unfortunately, somebody felt the need to deface the incredible mural by tossing white paint over Prodigy’s face, an act P’s friend and former collaborator Cormega did not take too kind to.

Well, the disrespectful act didn’t last long because Henriquez immediately sprung into action and with some help from a few friends he repaired the mural within a day.

“15 hours in one shot to bring back our fallen hip hop general,” he said about the effort to repair the mural. The repair job included his friend DJ Hot Day pulling him his truck and running the headlights so Henriquez and Lazare could see the work at night and finish in one sitting.

“The statement we made today represents the resilience of a community and a deep love for one man,” Henriquez said in his Instagram post about the repair of the mural. “Im honored to have been asked to do the piece.”
