The Upcoming ‘Indiana Jones’ Movie Now Has A Writer Attached (And It Might Spell Mixed Feelings For Fans)

How did you like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? If you were happy with Indy’s fourth installment, we have some news that might make your day. If you thought the series “nuked the fridge” in its last go-around, the exact same news might make you a bit worried.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Crystal Skull scribe David Koepp is the man penning the latest adventure in the surprisingly durable adventure franchise. Koepp has a résumé stuffed with blockbusters like Jurassic Park, Spider-Man and Death Becomes Her, so there’s reason to be optimistic about big screen thrills being on the way even if Crystal Skull wasn’t your thing. Mind you, he also directed Johnny Depp’s “ha! mustaches!” vehicle Mortdecai, so maybe keep the confetti in storage until this thing actually tumbles out into theatres in summer 2019.

As was revealed earlier this week, Indiana Jones 5: Sure Why Not? is officially a go with Steven Spielberg set to direct and Harrison Ford ready to whip things as needed. Details of what’s to come are relatively light with no word yet on if Indiana Jones creative staple George Lucas will have his fingerprints on this particular project. THR notes that Disney’s announcement about the fifth movie’s future arrival is Lucas-free from a mention standpoint, which might also give fans of the series complicated feelings. The Star Wars box office juggernaut has chugged along relatively well without him, so maybe said feelings aren’t that complicated.
