Rooney Mara Claims She Is Still Involved With ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ Sequel

Will she or won’t she? That’s the big question swirling around the next big screen adventure of Lisbeth Salander, the main character in author Steig Larsson’s Millenium series. The first American feature was 2011’s adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which earned actress Rooney Mara an Oscar nomination for playing Lisbeth.

But now, with word spreading that another film with Salander at its center is set to begin filming — The Girl in the Spider’s Websome reports say Mara won’t be back to reprise her role. But Mara doesn’t seem to know it.

In a video posted at E! Online, Mara relays that she “of course” would love another shot at the role and is “doing it until someone tells me I’m not.”

Someone may want to tell that to Sony, which is said to be courting Alicia Vikander from The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Ex Machina for the role.

Mara is currently gathering Oscar steam for her work in Carol, a drama from director Todd Haynes about the relationship between a department store clerk (Mara) and an older, suburban housewife (Cate Blanchett) in the 1950s.
