Apparently ‘Zombieland 2’ Is Filming This Summer, Despite Not Having A Cast

Sony is quickly becoming the studio that cried “Zombieland 2!” While a sequel for the surprise hit was apparently in production back in 2014, not much else came of it. Director Ruben Fleischer was set to return, and The Expendable‘s Dave Callaham was aboard to write the screenplay, as Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick jumped ship for Deadpool. However, despite these pieces added to the puzzle, fans were left with no news, until an official logo made its way to CinemaCon AND Reese and Wenick were back on to pen the script. Still, everyone was skeptical that they’re dreams were actually coming true seven years down the line. Would we see the double tap again?

Well, start ranking your zombie kills of the week. ComicBook.com is reporting that according to casting calls in Atlanta, filming for Zombieland 2 is rumored to begin in August of this year. However, the central quartet of Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin have yet to be secured. Considering how fans turned on the Zombieland Amazon pilot and destroyed it with fire, it seems critical to secure the original cast for the sequel. For what it’s worth, Eisenberg is totally down to return, telling Entertainment Weekly:

“Yeah, it’d be wonderful to do. I know they’ve been trying to do it for a while, and I know they’re trying to figure out exactly what will occur in it. But it’s a kind of movie that, as soon as it came out, seemed appropriate to generate a sequel. … It takes place in this odd, created world and features an ensemble of interesting characters that it’d be curious to see more of. I would hope that it happens, and I’m sure everybody would be happy to do it if it happens and it’s good.”

Those better not be empty words, Columbus. So, there you have it, folks. Break out the Twinkies, because things are finally starting to look up.
