A Kanye West And Depeche Mode Mashup Is The Real Star Of This ‘Atomic Blonde’ Trailer

Atomic Blonde is movie starring Charlize Theron and John Goodman. It looks like an action-packed ’80s spy thriller that’s 80 percent blue filters and 20 percent neon and sex. Even among all that star power and interesting cinematography, the real star of the latest trailer is a mashup of Kanye West’s “Black Skinhead” and Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus.”

Eagle-eared watchers might remember “Personal Yeezus” from when it lit up the internet all the way back in 2013, provided they weren’t bigger fans of Kanye of the Stone Age. The track shares time in the trailer with a cover of “Blue Monday” by Los Angeles noisesters HEALTH. Regardless of how you feel about Kanye being injected into Depeche Mode and their era, you have to admit it’s a welcome break from when trailer makers were using “Power” nearly as often as stomach-churning bass drops.

Atomic Blonde drops on July 28 in an attempt to fill the John Wick-sized hole in your heart. We can only hope there’s more Kanye does the ’80s in the final product.
