Beck Amazes With His New Song ‘Wow’ And Announces A New Album

Well, it didn’t take long for the esoteric, hip-hop sounding Beck to return after his Grammy Award-winning, folky album Morning Phase came out in 2014. It’s been almost a year since we heard his pop rock radio hit “Dreams,” but his latest track, “Wow,” sounds like vintage Odelay and Midnite Vultures-era Beck with its layers of rap beats, strange samples, and even stranger lyrics. One of the verses includes the lyrics “standing on the lawn doing jiu-jitsu/ Girl in the bikini with the Lamborghini shih tzu” so yeah, vintage Beck is back.

“Wow” is taken from Beck’s upcoming untitled new album, which is due out October 21 through Capitol Records, according to a press release. Beck recently sat down with Zane Lowe where he talked about working with the upcoming album’s superstar producer, Greg Kurstin, and how his own kids sort of pushed for him to include “Wow” on the album. To help promote the track, Beck had artists from all over the world release videos with snippets of the song to their Instagram.

Whatever you take away from all this, one thing is for sure: Beck’s next album is going to be unlike anything he’s released in recent memory.
