Ron Rivera benched Cam Newton for the Panthers first drive of the game on Sunday night because Newton violated the team’s dress-code on Saturday as the team arrived at the airport. Because TMZ is always watching you and it’s only a matter of time before they post an embarrassing video of you, they attained a clip of the moment when Rivera broke the news to Newton.

As you can see, Newton had just returned from committing a crime in 1950s Chicago with a Tommy Gun when Rivera pulled him off the bus to let him know. Newton said, “A tie?! Yeah, see, I don’t need a tie, see? My outfit doesn’t require a tie, see? Yeah, now scram!”

Hopefully the message Rivera tried to send to the face of the franchise was received, because on the first play of the game Derek Anderson did this:

It didn’t get much better from there, as the Panthers went on to lose 40-7, falling to 4-8 and all but officially ending their season.
