Drake was a happy ting Sunday night. After scoring a record 13 AMA nominations, the Canadian rapper took home three awards for his stellar year in music. Drizzy beat out his peers for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album (Views), Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Hip-Hop Song (“Hotline Bling”). It was an incredible night for the rapper who had never won an AMA before.
During his acceptance speech for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist, the 6 Gawd thanked his loyal OVO fans and the city of Toronto before teasing his upcoming project, More Life, slated for December. And then came the patois subliminals. “More chune for ya head talk, so watch how you speak out my name, ya know?”
And it didn’t stop there. After Papi took home his awards, he went straight to Instagram to send more shots to his foes, writing, “Some bwoy need fi make some hit song and stop cry” on DJ Khaled’s page. Translating that to English, Drake said, “some guys need to make a hit song and stop crying already.”
Who knows who the hell Drake was talking to — maybe Kanye — but guess we’ll find out when that hit dog eventually hollers. However, if you’ll allow me to dislocate my shoulder to make this epic reach, perhaps it was a response to Meek Mill. It was rumored Meek and his crew “went nuts” when they played Drake’s records at Odell Beckham Jr.’s 24th birthday party earlier this month. It’s also worth noting that Meek was in the audience last night as Nicki Minaj’s date. Bet that was awkward.
