Final Track: 7 Must-Hear Songs Of The Week

Senior Pop Culture Editor

It’s impossible to cover each bit of new music that comes out during the week, so every Friday, we’ll be doing an end of the week music roundup. It’s called Final Track, and we’ll count off a few songs released during the week that are worth giving a listen to. (Banner via Getty Image)

Today, we’ve got selections from Lorde, Talib Kweli, EMA, and more.

“No Better” by Lorde

Beyonce wasn’t the only major pop star to surprise us with new music today. There’s also Lorde, who continues to prove “Royals” was no fluke with the quivering “No Better.”

“Violations” by Talib Kweli ft. Raekwon

“Tony’s Theme” by Giorgio Moroder

Fresh off his remix of HAIM’s “Forever,” Giorgio Moroder is back with…another remix, though this time it’s his very own “Tony’s Theme” from the Scarface soundtrack. It’s for the 30th anniversary of the film and totally unnecessary, but the remix fittingly bobs up and down, like Tony’s head into and out of a pile of cocaine.

“Satellites” by EMA

Since releasing one of 2011’s most underappreciated albums, Past Life Martyred, EMA has been quiet. But she’s prepping her next record, due out next year, which, if first single “Satellites” is any indication, will be appropriately loud and fuzzy.

“Ain’t No Chimneys In the Projects” by Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings

Only Sharon Jones could get away with calling a Christmas song “Ain’t No Chimneys In the Projects.” Let me rephrase: only Sharon Jones could get away with calling a Christmas song “Ain’t No Chimneys In the Projects,” and have it be good.

“Cinnamon and Lesbians” by Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks

Cinnamon, lesbians, and Stephen Malkmus: three of life’s greatest things, together in one alt-country package.

“Sad and Beautiful World” by the Flaming Lips

Lest you think Sparklehorse is a lesser-known My Little Pony, it’s actually the name of a well-respected indie rock band, which was led by the late Mark Linkous. The Flaming Lips contributed “Sad and Beautiful World” to Last Box of Sparklers, a tribute album that raises funds for mental health awareness..
