Michael Nau’s ‘Light That Ever’ Is Further Proof That He’s Cooking Up Summer’s Best Record

If you’ve ever owned a couch that was manufactured before you were born, if you’ve ever suddenly realized that you’ve drifted a half mile from your beach chair, if you’ve ever considered listing lounging, liming, hanging or any variation thereof on a dating website profile, then Michael Nau’s upcoming album Some Twist is going to be extremely your sh*t.

Nau just shared a new track from that collection “Light That Ever” and it has all the coziness and bouyancy of a warm bath. The chiming piano, fuzzy and distant horns and dusty effects recall the lavish, big-room studio singer-songwriter albums of the 1970s. Something made in a room that’s obscenely white with couches in the next room that are as plush as they are storied. In fact, Nau sounds quite a bit like Father John Misty without the existential hand-wringing and need to get to any criticisms of himself first to plant the flag.

Check out “Light That Ever” up top and then give a listen to “Good Thing.” If you’re anything like us, then the two singles will leave you jonesing for Some Twist to drop on June 16. The album is available to pre-order via Suicide Squeeze right this second.
