James Turrell is a 72-year old artist from California who began experimenting with light in the latter half of the 1960s. These days, Turrell’s installations — in which he uses a variety of colored lights to effectively paint an open space — have popped up in places like Jerusalem, London, Japan, and just about every corner of the world. There’s one other place that Turrell’s work has popped up: Drake‘s “Hotline Bling” music video.

While some may argue (see video) that “Hotline Bling” in no way represents Turrell’s illuminated touch, the evidence may say otherwise. What do you think? Did Drake and his director, aptly named Director X, sample a bit of Turrell’s work to carve out the neon fantasyland of “Hotline Bling?”
