Lil Wayne’s health issues were pushed to the forefront once again after his seizures forced his private jet to make two emergency landings earlier this week. While clubgoers saw him sipping “massive amounts of syrup” prior to his health issues, Weezy’s rep tells TMZ the seizures happened because he didn’t take his medicine.

Lil Wayne says his latest round of seizures were not triggered by sizzurp … he says it all emanates from a chronic condition — epilepsy, and the medications he takes to control it…As for why he wasn’t taking his Rx … Wayne’s rep tells us he went to a pharmacy in Milwaukee where he was performing but they didn’t have the medicine in stock. He thought he could do without it for a few days, but he was wrong.

Wayne’s addiction to syrup — a concoction of codeine and promethazine prescription cough syrup — has been well documented. In 2008, he told MTV News that quitting the drink was difficult. “It ain’t that easy — feels like death in your stomach when you stop doing that sh*t.” he said. But, in 2009, he told Katie Couric that he was no longer addicted to it, and reiterated it again to her in 2013. It’s worth noting that even though he was still frequently seen with doubled-up styrofoam cups, which is a method in which syrup is consumed.

It’s clear that the Hollygrove rapper is still suffering from addiction to the drink. What’s troubling is that he doesn’t seem to want to kick the habit. Dating all the way back to when his substance abuse was first reported, he spoke about friends and family that were all pleading with him to slow down his consumption.

Addiction is a sickness that can’t and won’t be easily cured. For most people, it takes an entire team of people to help them get on the right path. The former Hot Boy has all the available resources to make it happen. One just hopes he gets the help he needs before it’s too late.
