This Blues Goalie Lost A Contact Lens After Taking A Slapshot Straight To The Mask

During the third period of Sunday’s Blues-Stars Game 2 in Dallas, a slapshot knocked a contact straight out of the eye of St. Louis netminder Brian Elliott.

There was a lot of concern that Elliott was injured after taking a hard Jason Spezza slapper right off the mask  during a Stars power play late in the game. The puck drilled Elliott right in the cage, causing a violent impact that cocked his head backward before the goalie fell to the ice in his crease.

Fortunately, after some inspection by trainers, the damage seemed to be limited. A contact lens was knocked loose and replaced, as was Elliott’s helmet. All things considered, that’s an outcome I’d take as someone who just took a screaming slapshot to the head.
