As of yesterday, US women’s soccer players Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux dressing as Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke respectively was the clear winner in the sports-related Halloween costume contest. Sure, the costume is ubiquitous as f*ck, but who’s gonna top it, the baseball-playing Jamaican bobsled team?
How about Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder and his wife Samantha dressed as Squints and Wendy Peffercorn from ‘The Sandlot?’ Yeah, that’ll do it.
Achievement unlocked: get your wife to dress up like Wendy Peffercorn.
I think the best thing a Halloween costume can do (besides, I don’t know, being scary) is hit the sweet spot between easy recognition and charming semi-obscurity. Christian Ponder nailed it. Unless Heidi Klum dresses up as one of the baseball guys from The Warriors, I think the Ponders have got it in the bag.
