The Chiefs Threw A Touchdown Pass To 346-Lb Defensive Tackle Dontari Poe

The Kansas City Chiefs took the phrase “Big Man Touchdown” to the next level on Sunday afternoon when they threw a touchdown pass to Dontari Poe. Normally a defensive tackle, the 346-pound Poe came in on offense and appeared to line up at fullback on a 3rd-and-goal from the 1-yard line.

But the Chiefs audibled into an empty backfield with Poe lining up behind three blockers on the right. Alex Smith took the snap, fired the ball over to his, um, receiver, and Poe charged in. Despite having four defenders to the Chiefs’ three blockers, the Raiders were unable to take Poe down because he just barreled through everyone. It was such a wonderful site, and as the commenters on the game pointed out, designing a play that involves throwing a short pass to a defensive tackle with the hopes of picking up one yard is the best.

This was not the first touchdown of Poe’s career, though, as he got a rushing touchdown during the 2015 season. It was a one-yard gain, so a note to teams playing the Chiefs: if they are on your goal line and Poe is in, he isn’t just checking into the game to clear some room.
