Ronda Rousey Explains Why Perfect Is No Longer Her Goal

A new Ronda Rousey is slowly emerging from the shadows … one that is no longer striving for a perfect professional fight record and flawless victories in every fight. This Ronda Rousey, who we saw in a new ad for Reebok called #PerfectNever, is fine with not being perfect, because “perfect never gets a chance at redemption.” And now in a behind-the-scenes interview, Ronda elaborates on being cool with imperfection and not pleasing everyone all the time.

“I am not a lukewarm person, I’m very polar where people usually hate my guts or really, really like me,” she says. “I’m fine with that and letting the world know that I’m okay with that. I tried to show as many as the imperfections and flaws as I can, I go out and walk around where I’m not wearing any make up or anything. I like how my face looks.

“I’m not trying to make it look perfect all the time, I’m just trying to be myself all the time and I think that’s realistic. And people don’t see that too often. I feel like a lot of women are under the pressure of making everyone happy with them all the time, that it’s good to have some examples out there where it’s like, ‘You know what, not everyone is going to like you, but life will go on and be okay and you can still love yourself.”

All this certainly makes Rousey sound like a woman who plans to come back to fighting to prove all her critics wrong. When that’s going to be isn’t as clear. But whether it’s near the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017, the UFC has promised she’ll get a shot at whoever is holding the women’s bantamweight title — the title she held right up until Holly Holm took it off her with a massive head kick knockout win back in November of 2015.

Holly Holm then lost the belt to Miesha Tate, and then Tate just dropped the belt to Amanda Nunes at UFC 200. If Ronda doesn’t come back for UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden in November, Holly Holm could end up fighting Nunes there and taking the belt back … setting up a much harder return for Rousey.
