Things Got Ugly At The Houston Title Game When Security Guards Started Beating On Fans

Houston’s victory in the AAC title game is being tarnished following video evidence that security hired by the university assaulted students that tried to run onto the field to celebrate. CSC event security staff were caught on video tackling, shoving, and punching several fans as they attempted to run onto the field. From USA Today:

At the end of No. 18 Houston’s 24-13 victory against the No. 21 Owls, Contemporary Services Corporation (CSC) Event staffers appeared to aggressively punch and tackle fans. In one video capturing the scene, another staffer can be heard telling a security guard who had just slammed a fan to the ground to let them go.

Following video and reports pouring online, the university addressed the incidents in a statement from Houston Vice President for Athletics Hunter Yurachek. The statement addressed the possibility of legal action against CSC and noted that the contract with the company had been terminated.

Some video showed several guards beating and punching a fan several times, even when the fan was on the ground:

Others showed another staffer spearing fans to the ground:

CSC COO Devan Schulz responded to the actions of the employees on the video in a statement to the Houston Chronicle:

“Training is provided to CSC employees for responding to such situations,” Schulz told the Chronicle. “Any actions by CSC personnel that contradict our training, CSC’s other requirements, or the law, are not condoned by CSC and will not be tolerated.”

We’ll be updating if anything new comes to light.
