Finally Simone Biles Got The Flipbook Treatment Every Inspiring Gold Medalist Deserves

Simone Biles is one of the stars of the Rio Olympics. She has won five medals, four of them gold. She was part of the “Final Five” gymnastics team that dominated the team event to win the United States back-to-back gold medals in that event. So how do you celebrate a gymnast this accomplished? What medium can truly capture the magic and glory of Simone Biles? Naturally, the answer is “a flipbook.”

Behold, The Gold Medal Winning Flip (book). This isn’t like the flipbooks you made as a kid. There’s not some little stick figure dancing. Instead, what we have here is an intricately drawn flipbook dedicated to one of Biles’ gold medal winning performances.

The video is relatively short, but it still captures Biles’ tremendous tumbling skills and her ability to, well, flip. The trick to any good flipbook is to make the drawings flow well together so that they look like a video, and this one definitely does that. It looks like you are watching Simone Biles flip, which is pretty cool. It’s like the video for “Take on Me,” but much more patriotic.

If you are going to watch one video of a flipbook dedicated to a gold medal winning gymnast this year, make it this one. It’s a fitting tribute to Simone Biles’ ability to fly through the air.
