Basically, every NFL team can use another quarterback on their roster. Either, because they don’t have an entrenched starter or because they want a solid backup plan in the event their guy gets hurt. For that reason, you’d expect that some team would be interested in signing Colin Kaepernick, as he has plenty of experience as a starter and has had more success than most backups around the league.
Still, Kaepernick is a free agent, and it doesn’t sound like he is going to land anywhere anytime soon. According to Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report, 20 percent of NFL teams think he can’t play, 10 percent fear that signing him would lead to a backlash from fans in the form of protests, and the remainder “genuinely hate him” because he knelt during the national anthem.
To Spike Lee, this is absurd. The Academy Award-nominated director expressed his thoughts in an Instagram post after meeting with Kaepernick over brunch and specifically called out the Jets for not making an effort to bring Kaepernick in.
Just Had Brunch With My Brother Colin @Kaepernick7 . How Is It That There Are 32 NFL Teams And Kap Is Still A Free Agent? WTF. Smells MAD Fishy To Me,Stinks To The High Heavens. The New York J-E-T-S Need A Quarterback. Who Is The J-E-T-S Quarterback? Is My Man Joe Willie Namath Coming Back? Crazy Times We Live In. The Question Remains What Owner And GM Is Going To Step Up And Sign Colin So Their Team Has A Better Chance To WIN? What Crime Has Colin Committed? Look At The QB’s Of All 32 Teams. This Is Some Straight Up Shenanigans,Subterfuge, Skullduggery And BS. Ya-Dig? Sho-Nuff. By Any Means Necessary. And Dat’s Da NoFunLeague Truth,Ruth.
> he is being punished like he’s a criminal when really, he was expressing his right to protest peacefully.
In the NFL, criminals get rewarded with multimillion dollar contracts. Even a murder or two isn’t enough to keep teams away.
He had 18 TDs to just 4 INTs in 12 games last year, and that was while playing on maybe the worst team in the league. Yet he can’t get a job. Incredible. I guess he’ll get to spend more of his helping impoverished people in Somalia instead.
Maybe it’s due to his crappy performance and lack of respect for coaches. That’s why spikes comment holds no water and doesn’t matter.
18 TDs to 4 INTs is crappy play? Did you see his receivers last year? Torrey Smith and Jeremy Kerley? The Niners had no talent last year. What Kap accomplished was a minor miracle.
He’s not “being punished like a criminal”. What an absurd statement. They punish most criminals with prison time, not by withholding million dollar a year paying jobs from them.
You’re right, he’s not being treated like a criminal. Criminals get jobs in the NFL.
Didn’t the Jets sign Tebow to third string QB knowing that he couldn’t play? Kap is way more qualified than Tebow. It seems to me that the NFL is disrespecting it’s African American audience and most of the players here. Hopefully as the season approaches somebody in some front office will smarten up.
Won’t it be a great experiment to have Brady go play with the 49ers and Kap play for New England. Then we’d find out just how good Brady is and how good Kap could be with a really good team & coach.
I’m sure someone will sign Kaepernick before the season starts, but when the hell did Spike Lee’s opinions on football become newsworthy? I can understand if he was talking about the Knicks, but this?
This is the same thing that happened to Michael Sam, and the same thing that happened to Tim Tebow, as well as domestic abusers like Josh Brown, Ray Rice, and Greg Hardy. NFL teams aren’t taking some sort of ‘moral stand’ by staying away from these players, they simply do not want media circuses that go along with them. Unless the player in question is a superstar level contributer, it’s not worth the headache. Media circuses=distractions=unfocused players and coaches=losing football games=people getting fired.
The one exception I can think of where a team overcame a media hullaballoo is deflategate, and that’s mainly because Belichick is a master at deflecting that stuff and getting people to buy in, and Tom Brady might actually be an alien.
