Here’s How Many Hours Of Commercials You’re Not Watching Because Of Netflix

Not only has Netflix made our lives more fulfilling (and quotable) with Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, and Orange Is the New Black, it’s also prevented us from watching the same three beer commercials nine times an hour. Eight bucks a month is a small price to pay to not have to see ads, and according to data compiled by Exstreamist, Netflix could potentially save you from more than 130 hours of commercials a year.

According to a 2000-person survey conducted by TDG Research, users are now spending upwards of 1.5 hours a day on average streaming Netflix content. This ends up being around 540 hours of time spent streaming Netflix a year. (Via Exstreamist)

Those 90 minutes of Netflix streaming mean bypassing 21.3 minutes of ads, or stretched out over an entire year, “you’re looking at a grand total of 5.4 days of advertisements avoided.” That’s 130 hours, 3,900 minutes, and to put it into terms anyone can understand, 177 episodes of Seinfeld, which is the whole damn show. Don’t weep for Carl’s Jr., though: they’re already working on dropping subliminal advertising into Boobs Burgers, I mean, Bob’s Burgers.
